Lead Editors

Erin Pallott

I’m a third-year PhD student studying mucus responses to intestinal parasites, which might be two of the grossest aspects of biology imaginable. On the weekends, I’m often found at metal, goth, or emo gigs/club nights. I also really enjoy teaching and communicating science, and I am involved in several other projects such as Pint of Science, The Brilliant Club and I’m a Scientist. Twitter: @ErinPallott

Sub-Editors

We’re always recruiting! Contact an editor to hear about roles. Anyone is welcome to join the team as a sub-editor. We are not looking for experience, just an interest in developing science communication and writing skills.

We are also currently looking for an additional lead editor and a social media manager.

Schenelle D’Lima – Sci-comm

I’m Schenelle, a PhD student in the Division of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Care. My research is around frailty and independent ageing-in-place. Outside my PhD research, I love exploring the best coffee shops Manchester has to offer, reading mythological fiction, listening to history podcasts, and Googling the best eateries in Manchester.

Olatz Niembro Vivanco – Sci-comm

Hi! I am Olatz, a final year PhD Student straddling between the Lydia Becker Institute in UoM and the Dept. of Life Sciences in Imperial. In my research, I explore how our Natural Killer cells release their deadly cargo to fight cancer and infections. When I’m not reporting back from the immune battlefield, you can find me bouncing around at a gig or crashing onto people on roller skates—mostly at a roller derby track. Occasionally I stand still and tweet from @Olatznv.

Elan Shellard – Wellbeing

Hi! I’m Elan, an MBPhD student in the Division of Musculoskeletal and Dermatological Sciences. I’m doing my PhD in between my 3rd and 4th year at med school in Newcastle and looking into the IL-23/ Th17 axis in psoriasis, specifically mapping risk genes onto cell types along the pathway. Outside of the lab you can find me on the rugby pitch, out on a run,  wandering wherever I can find trees or curled up working through my (far too long) goodreads tbr list. You can find me on instagram @elanshellard.

Poppy Dunn – Sci-comm

Hi! I’m Poppy, a first-year cancer sciences PhD student in the Cancer Inflammation and Immunity group, researching the role of steroids in the tumour microenvironment. Outside of the lab, you’ll find me playing football or bouldering, or losing a pub quiz.
